We only own one car. But that works out here because of the public transportation system, an extensive metro train and bus system that gets my husband (me on the metro with two kids? no thanks) to and from work while I get to keep the car. I can count on my hand how many times Joe has taken the car to work and left me...stranded.
11:36 am: I am talking with friends who have spent the night, and heard Sadie playing in the dishwasher. I walk over to see that she has managed to get me HUGE 300 pill bottle of prenatal pills, and has some out in different cups. I ask her if she ate any, she said she did with a sour face. I ask her how many, and she said, "just one."
"Did you spit it, or swallow?" She closed her eyes and made a motion with her face as if she swallowed.
I was sure I would never have to use it. At the time, I chuckled when the pediatrician had given it to me, knowing responsible parents like me don't need them, but I went to the fridge and was grateful for the little magnet that had the number for poison control on it.
I had to give Sadie's weight and age, and how long it had been since the "ingestion." Apparently, for her size she would have had to eat 15 to be toxic. I could say with a fair degree of certainty, she didn't have 15. I was told to give her food right away, and watch for vomiting, or pallor, or lethargy over the next 2 and 1/2 hours, not to let her sleep, and "Lori" my nice operator would ring me back to check in.
Food? Okay. I gave her some baby food I know she likes, that she would eat if she were hungry, or not. She ate it, then decided I should just make lunch for everyone.
12:12pm: I fixed peanut and butter and jelly. Sadie loves them, and Joe Joe is one-years-old, he can have peanut butter. He had some before, and seemed fine then...
Poor kid. He looked like one big hive. His little eyes got red and puffy, his face, neck, tops of his hands, and back were covered in welts. His nose began to run green boogers. I thought, "Crap, his little throat is going to close too." I called my sister and had her look up for me what I can do while I tried to nurse and comfort him and keep an eye on his breathing while trying to keep him calm. Meanwhile, I couldn't get a hold of Joe, pending the need to take two kids to the ER simultaneously.
I put Joe Joe in the tub to try and wash any remnants off his little skin. The hives went down. Phew.
It has now been three hours. Sadie is ready for a nap, and Joe Joe is just about to wake up from his. They are just fine. I am, tired--but relieved. Amazing how much can happen in just one day...

It appears that he is allergic to peanuts, at least.

Oh man! Crazy day Erin! I'm glad everyone is good and I hope you got a nap after all that. Is Joe allergic to nuts?
To make you feel better about Sadie, I ate a bunch of prenatal vitamins when I was 3 yrs. old. I ate a quite a bit more than Sadie and my parents had to give me that stuff that makes you throw-up that I can't spell. :)
Good times!
