Today, we woke up cheery and excited to tackle what promised to be great fun. My kids were having friends over for a party (it was supposed to be a Halloween party, but I had postponed it due to Joe Joe being sick).
Sadie was up on the counter helping me make cupcakes. I reached into the cupboard to get down the sprinkles, when I heard a terrible scream.
Sadie had looked down into the bowl, and the retched kitchen-aid grabbed those golden locks and RIPPED them off her head. I mean RIPPED. I, of course, turned it off, scrambled to find a pair of scissors, and when I couldn't, reached for my butcher's knife and finished the job.
I had been avoiding cutting her beautiful baby locks for so long, not wanting to cut off the curls. Now I wished I had.
Poor Sadie, she screamed and cried while I held her. No blood. We are SO fortunate no scalp was removed, just hair. We talked about bodies and how sometimes our bodies will get hurt, and that it would be ok, they get better. We can always ask our Father in Heaven for help. We said a prayer.
Kids are so fantastically resilient. I am still reeling from the accident, feeling so sad that such a freak accident happened, so guilty, so broken hearted for the GIANT bald spot on her head. Sadie, on the other hand, wanted to help me more, had a great party, and hasn't mentioned the "incident" since. I didn't really tell her she was missing a clump of hair about the size of a dollar bill. I think a pony tail might be a good idea for a while.

Oh my word!!! That breaks my heart. Poor thing and her beautiful hair. I wouldn't touch a hair on that head. It's too gorgeous to cut. What a sad crazy freak accident. Kiss that bald spot for me. love ya!
OH NO!!! That's so sad! I hate it when those things happen and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Poor girl!
(Despite such a tragedy you should post a picture of her poor "little" bald spot.)
Poor Sadie! Poor you too! what a terrifying thing to see that and experience. I am sure her hair looks really cute though when it's cut and fixed. hugs to you guys!
