She had been eyeing my food for WEEKS. I knew she was ready. The girl would, "MMMMNNNN" at my hamburgers, and chew when I chewed, and stare like she had tractor beams in her eyes when I would bring my fork to my mouth. She was hungry.
I had it all set up in my head how it would go: I waited for California so the WHOLE family could be there to, "coo" in unison at her big event. We would all gather 'round after I made the big announcement that Brynlee would now eat her first solid food. I would have my hair and makeup done so I could be in pictures and look HOT. I'd set up the camera for Joe and have him snap wall hanging-worthy shots.
The night before, she had been up all night, nursing every hour (probably because she was STARVING). I was SO tired and GRUMPY the next day. That day, we had also scheduled to take the kids to see, "Toy Story 3" with Grandma. Because Joe Joe was going, I figured an extra hand wouldn't hurt. I went and left Brynlee with her dad who was staying to watch the World Cup. It was the 7th of July. Incidentally, that is my Brother's birthday.
Anyway, I was glad I went to help with Joe Joe. He ran, had to go potty twice, screamed with elation at Buzz, and was an all around exhausting delight. Grandma made a last minute decision to take the kids all out for lunch following the 2 hour movie that was 45 minutes away. It was so fun, I loved special time with my son, but I was so worried about Brynlee. I had been gone A LONG TIME.
When we pulled up, I walked in the door to find this:
Daddy was nice enough to see a need and fill it. Poor thing was so hungry. I was calm and grateful, putting my daughter's needs first, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING???? YOU ARE FEEDING HER WITH OUT ME???? JOE?!?!?!?!"
I mentioned I was tired, right? It should be noted that I later told him I was sorry, and that I was glad he did what he did. So, these are the pictures you get, and the memory I keep of Brynlee's first time eating solid foods.
Face when she got the spoon.
Face without the spoon.
She continues to love to eat, and is getting bigger and stronger and more adorable every day.
