That special something

There is something about her in her jammies, toting around an awkward lizard her daddy brought back from Cuba, her diaper sticking out of the top, one pant leg higher than the other. She runs from my room to hers those curls bouncing, flashing the "I love you" sign as she closes the door behind her. I don't let it fool me. She knows it is bed time.
There is something about rocking with her, with the lights turned out and the gentle hum of her brother sleeping behind us. We talk about the day, the fantastic Thanksgiving day we had. The first thing she blurts is, "I had fun a-day!" There is something about burying my face in the top of her head and smelling shampoo and play dough, and listening to her jabber about her best friends, and pie and her daddy, not always knowing what the exact word was she was trying to say, but understanding completely what she meant. She, in her two-and-a-half years has so much to be thankful for. I, in my 27, have so much more.
