Gardening

Back in May, Sadie and I went to buy some plants to make our annual garden. I let her help decide what to plant, and allowed her to pick all the flowers.

We ended up with sunflowers, peas, strawberries, watermelons, peppers, and spinach plus some tomatoes in pots.

Sadie loves to help water, and nearly 2 months later, we have had some success. Here is our first watermelon, I am hoping it gets bigger--it is about the size of a golf ball. Either that, or we get more than one.

Nearly everything came up. Some plants did better than others. We had one pea plant that came up, gave one pod which Sadie ate, then died. We had enough spinach to make some calzones, and about everyday Sadie goes out to pick "matoes" and "stawberries" and eats them on the spot.

It looks fantastic Erin! Great job! Don't home grown tomatoes taste amazing? All I've managed to get are some tomatoes which are supposed to be full sized, but they have all ended up being more like the size of cherry tomatoes. They taste good though, and Nick loves them. I'm pretty sure my venture has lost money over all, but to me even a little taste of home grown produce is worth it.

I have one little blossom on a tiny pepper plant so I am holding out hope there. The strawberry plants shriveled up in the heat when I went out of town.

great job erin! i'm a totally impressed! maybe you should come back and help us a little. we got started a little late for one thing so we haven't got much of anything so far except snow peas and they're already gone because of the heat. you can't really tell the difference between the weeds and the plants right now. oops! i always say i'm going to get out there and weed but then i end up coming up with so many excuses! heat, bugs, etc. with nothing blooming, i lose all motivation! i told mason we should be weed farmers instead!

Good job Erin! I love the tiny little watermelon! Seriously, if it wasn't for bugs and spiders I would garden a lot, it seems like so much fun in my head but then when I get out there and get bugs all over me I give up :) Kevin says I need to save my garden or else he's going to turn it into a horseshoe pit :)

Impressive Erin! That gigantic sunflower is hilarious.

Thanks for the call and message from Sadie. I'll call ya back. And thanks for cleaning that gashtly carpet of ours. I can't wait for the day to get rid of it.
