Ribbons and Bows

During his morning nap, Sadie and I would frequent our front yard during the summer so she could play, and do her favorite thing: push her baby in a stroller.

... and feed her clothing-less doll.

I love my daughter so much.

Her nature is so kind, and helpful.

Yesterday, I had laid her and her brother down for their naps. They almost never nap at the same time, it just happened to work out that way that day. I heard some odd noises coming from their bedroom over the monitor: some laughing, some jabber, some paper shredding. I thought "BOOKS! OH NO!" I went in, to find the file cabinet drawer open and ALL the papers and files stacked and spread across Sadie's bed. I just gasped, and the smile Sadie had melted. She was just trying to make her brother laugh, and didn't notice the damage she was causing in the meantime. Crossroads.
"You need to help me clean this up right now" I said in a stern voice. I watched her brown eyes get red and wet, her hands fidget together, as her mouth turned slightly downward. Clearly, she felt bad. I was not as patient as I could have been given her intent, and she could have rebelled against my reaction, and thrown a fit. She didn't. "Here ya go Mama," she said carefully and cheerfully as she handed me pieces of paper. Complete humility and submission to her mother. I could be--should be--want to be--more like her.

What an angel! Despite the hard things about being a parent, little kiddos sure have a lot to teach their mommies and daddies.
