Caught red handed

We had a talk about it the day before. Apparently, my attempt to discourage her from playing with them, only heightened her curiosity. I was upstairs changing her brother, and I heard the sink running downstairs. I came down and she announced,



"Mom! I has to wash my hands!" She was standing on a chair at the sink scrubbing away. I walked slowly into the kitchen and realized she had retrieved the food coloring from the cupboard, and, as a consequence of curiosity, colored the counter, her brand new shirt (cringe)and of course, her hands. I may as well have told cookie monster to leave the cookie jar alone.
